WTA Ostrava Day 2 Predictions Including Angelique Kerber vs Jil Teichmann

Our WTA Ostrava Open day 2 predictions include some of the more in-form women on the WTA tour. Elena Rybakina, Angelique Kerber and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova have all had impressive runs in Grand Slams in recent months. As such, each will like their chances of lifting the title here. However, only one player can lift the trophy and there are plenty of other players in the draw capable of pulling off an upset. With that in mind, Let’s take a look at how everyone involved in Tuesday’s action should get on.

WTA Ostrava Day 2 Predictions

Shuai Zhang vs Yulia Putintseva

Head-to-head: Zhang 2-2 Putintseva

Yulia Putintseva is in great form heading into this match. The Kazakh is fresh off a semifinal appearance in Portoroz. She has also won her last two meetings against Shuai Zhang. Both of those meetings were in the last 18 months and both were on hard courts. With that in mind, Putintseva should emerge the victor here and do so relatively comfortably. Particularly because the Chinese player’s poor run of form in recent weeks.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Ana Konjuh

Head-to-head: Pavlyuchenkova 1-0 Konjuh

This is an intriguing matchup in many respects. Pavlyuchenkova has had a career year in 2021. The Russian finally broke her quarterfinal curse when she made the French Open final. However, she faces an opponent enjoying something of a surge herself in Ana Konjuh. The Croat looks to be returning ot the level of play that once saw her ranked #20 in the world. If she can continue improving she may well pull of an upset here, especially considering she had to qualify for the main draw in Ostrava.

An all Czech battle pits up and coming Martincova against doubles star Siniakova. The latter is a consistent singles player without ever playing remarkable tennis while the former has a big game that can impress but fails to play at that level consistently. This match is undoubtedly on Martincova’s racket. However, Siniakova will make her play enough balls to draw unforced errors in abundance. That should be enough to see her through here despite her lack of any real weapons.

The battle of the lefties headlines the action in Ostrava on Tuesday. Both are playing great tennis this year and both have every right to feel like they could win this tournament. Kerber’s form has been more impressive in recent weeks and she is undoubtedly more accomplished on hard courts. Nonetheless, Teichmann has shown she is more than capable on this surface and will want to keep her great run on hard courts going. It takes something special to hit through Kerber – just ask Leylah Fernandez – and I’m not sure the Swiss has it in her to do that on hard courts. Kerber should win here.

Prediction: Kerber in 3

Two promising young stars on the WTA tour do battle in this mouth-watering encounter. Rybakina is undoubtedly the more talented of the two. The Kazakh has shown immense promise over the last 18 months and looks a dead certainty to win a slam in the future. However, Kudermetova is a tricky customer and has immense weapons of her own that can cause real problems for any opponent. This will likely by decided by who can be more consistent off the ground and in that regard I give the edge to Rybakina. This should be close, but she will win in the end.
